About our School

We are a small Church of England Primary School in a beautiful rural location on the edge of Burntstump Country Park.
The school buildings are spacious and include a new multi-purpose school hall, classrooms, quiet areas, a new computer suite comprising of 15 computers, interactive whiteboards in every class and a well stocked library area, all set in approximately 3 acres of land next to the beautiful Burntstump Country Park.
Alongside the school site there is a large playing field called the Pingle. This is a beautiful area and the children are able to make full use of these facilities for as much of the year as possible. The school also has a conservation area, which provides a rich resource. We are fortunate to have a farm on our doorstep and this provides our children with further rich experiences throughout the year.
Arnold Seely Church School is a Voluntary Aided school, affiliated to the parish of St Paul’s, Daybrook. This means that parents who wish their children to attend a church aided school may make an application to the Governing Body. Our school bus runs in the Sherwood and Arnold area to aid parents with travel arrangements to the school.
We have 66 children on roll from September 2007 and each class has an interactive whiteboard. We will have 3 classes comprising of a newly refurbished, purpose built Foundation / KS1 unit, a mixed Y3/4 class and a mixed Y5/6 class. Classes are small and will be under 25 for 2007/8. We pride ourselves on our welcoming family atmosphere and our church links. In October 2006 we were judged as “A good school” in all areas of our education provision by OFSTED. We have further plans to ensure we build on this and welcome enquiries from anyone who would like to join our happy, caring school.

The aims of Arnold Seely Church School

Our school is a happy and friendly community which children enjoy attending and in which they achieve well. Our school aims are;- ~ To create a caring Christian environment where children develop a positive self-image, self-discipline and learn to respect and value others in our school community, regardless of race, gender, religion and other personal circumstances.

~ To promote moral awareness in our pupils so that they know the difference between right and wrong and become responsible for their own actions to both themselves and the school community.

~ To offer our pupils a broad and balanced curriculum, which develops progressively and is appropriate to each individual’s needs.

~ To ensure that each pupil achieves excellence in relation to his/her potential.

~ To encourage children to develop open and enquiring minds, through the acquisition of the necessary skills, concepts and knowledge for life.

~ To encourage children to work independently and to take responsibility for their learning.

~ To establish a partnership with all those involved in our school, staff, governors, parents and pupils, LEA, diocese and community.

We commit ourselves, with your support, to making the very most of your child’s ability and giving them the very best start in life.

A Brief History

The school was founded in 1902, by the Seely family of Sherwood Lodge (now Nottinghamshire Police Headquarters). The story told is that children were spotted from the Seely car struggling through snow and ice to school in Arnold. Shortly afterwards it was decided to build a school for the children who lived on the estate. The building is now a private house next door to the school. You can still see 1902 on the front elevation.
The Seely family “governed” the school known as Sherwood Lodge School till 1956 when they passed the responsibility to St. Paul’s Church, Daybrook (another building for which the Seely family were benefactors) at the same time the school was renamed Seely Church of England Aided Primary School.
In 2002 a major building project was undertaken which joined all parts of the school together and gave us a fantastic multi purpose hall which is now the focal point of our school. This build gave us the opportunity to create the purpose built ICT suite and gives our children the modern facilities they deserve. We now have a wonderful sense of space around the school which, allied with our magnificent outdoor grounds, makes our school a fantastic environment in which to be.
